StirlingX is seeking an Engineer with experience in ArduPilot who will support the integration of avionics, sensors, payloads and communications systems into unmanned aircraft.
We need a practical engineer who can bridge software and hardware development, comfortable modifying Ardu Pilotcode, integrating avionics and payloads, troubleshooting complex system issues, and supporting platforms through development, testing and operational deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify ArduPilot source code to deliver newfeatures and platform-specific capabilities.
- Integrate flight controllers, companion computers, sensors, datalinks, payloads, and ground control systems.
- Develop interfaces using MAVLink, serial, CAN, Ethernet,SPI, and I2C protocols.
- Conduct system integration, troubleshooting, ground testing, and flight testing.
- Analyse flight logs and telemetry data to support performance optimisation and issue resolution.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience developing and customising Ardu Pilotfirmware.
- Strong C++ and Python development skills.
- Experience with MAV Link, Mission Planner, and QGroundControl.
- Practical UAS avionics integration experience, includingGNSS, radios, telemetry, companion computers, and payload systems.
- Understanding of flight control systems, aircraft integration, and embedded systems.
- Hands-on experience supporting flight trials and systemdebugging.
Desirable Skills
- PX4, ROS/ROS2, DroneCAN/UAVCAN.
- Fixed-wing, VTOL, and multirotor platforms.
- Embedded Linux, NVIDIA Jetson, or similar edge computing systems.
- Defence, aerospace, or safety-critical systems experience.
